My Reality Show

So today I started thinking about the reality show I probably have the greatest shot of becoming a contestant on. I then felt the need to create a great reality show in my head!! Don't make too much fun of my random imagination again!!

Here we go with my reality show setup...

I can totally picture myself walking along the Trinity River with my iPod when all of a sudden, Stacy and Clinton from TLC's What Not to Wear, pop out of a bush and tell me that I have a horrible taste in music!! They have clips of me singing and listening to hideous music in my car (I had no idea they were filming me!)!! They then proceed to tell me that if I give up all of my Cd's and iPod and go to LA with them that they will present me with an iTunes gift card of $5000. I am mortified as all of my family and friends laugh at my atrocious music selection. It is a hard decision ,but I don't think my Asics will carry me away fast enough, so I decide that I might as well give in to the new reality show that I have created in my head, What Not to Listen To. So maybe Staci and Clinton shouldn't be the hosts for this reality show since they aren't music experts. I think my host picks might be Baby Spice and Vanilla Ice (they rhyme!). Anyone have any other great suggestions?!?

I guess I really do have to agree with my family and friends...I really do need to turn up the coolness factor in my music taste. My most dreaded date question is, "What kind of music do you listen to?". I think I would rather be asked what my dress size was!?! I always answer emphatically with the generic answer, "Oh...ALL kinds." Wow...I flew under the radar with that one! They then ask me who my favorite band is....hmmmm...."I just like EVERYTHING....I can't pick just ONE band". The reason I can't answer this question is because I DON'T have one. Can't they understand that!! I just want to ask them, "Which Greatest 80s Hits Cd did you like better, 1986 or 1987?". My radio selection isn't very exciting either, so I also want to ask my date, "Did you hear the sweet kindergarten class recite the Pledge of Allegiance today on KLTY?". I am not dogging KLTY because I do love Christian music, and I hope that I am not coming off as making fun of Christian music. The thing that scared me the most this week though is that I realized that since my battery went dead in my car three weeks ago, the only radio station that I have programmed into my car is KLTY!!

So for everyone to read, I would like to confess some "Guilty Pleasure" songs that I secretly smile when listening to. These are also songs that I make sure my car window is securely rolled up before blasting them in my car!! I believe that you will see an 80s theme going on.
  • "That's What Friends are For" by Dionne Warwick
  • "Islands in the Stream" by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton
  • "All that She Wants" by Ace of Base
  • "I Just Called to Say I love You" by Stevie Wonder
  • "Eternal Flame" by the Bangles
  • "Wind of Change" by the Scorpions
  • "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls (Baby Spice might like this selection!)
  • "Can't Fight this Feeling" by REO Speedwagon
  • "Africa" by Toto
  • "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins
  • "Anything for Love (But I Won't do That)" by Meatloaf
  • "We Built this City" by Starship
  • "Everytime You go Away" by Paul Young (inside joke with this one)
  • "Sister Golden Hair" by America
  • "Hungry Eyes" by Eric Carmen
  • "Heartlight" by Neil Diamond

I just laid it out there people!! I'm embarrassed, but I have gotten these songs off of my chest! They are only the tip of the iceberg though!!

I can totally picture Baby Spice and Vanilla Ice ambushing me at Best Buy to tell me to "Put that Neil Diamond Greatest Hits Cd down!".

So people...help a girl out...what should I start listening to? What are your guilty pleasure songs?

I'm slightly disappointed to not see any Diamond Rio on this list, but I will forgive since you did include 'Islands in the Stream' and 'All that She Wants.'

Embrace them.

And, I do not claim to know anything about music and being cool, but some of my personal recommendations are Coldplay (ironically, their song I enjoy the most is called 'Yellow'--only you and Amanda will know why that is ironic or funny or whathaveyou), Feist (liking 'Leisure Suite'), and Duffy ('Mercy'--it's incredibly catchy.)

One thing I am posting on my blog soon is that the iTunes Store has a free single of the week for downloading. It seems that these songs are usually about 6 weeks before the artist totally breaks out! So you are like, a trendsetter or something, courtesy of Apple.

I will prepare my very own roadtrip playlist for the weekend. I know you are on the edge of your seat!

I can't wait!

So there I was checking iTunes, and the current free single is a solo release of one of the dudes from Alabama.

All that to say: download at your own risk!
